Jack Gardner

Executive Chairman

Jack Gardner is Executive Chairman, a position he has held since 2007. Mr Gardner graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1962 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He has completed the Australian Administrative Staff College residential program. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Curtin University, Western Australia.

After holding directorships and senior management positions with Hawker Siddeley Engineering Pty Ltd, Comsteel Vickers/ANI, Minproc Engineers Pty Ltd and Broken Hills Metals NL between 1970 and 1990, he formed his own engineering consultancy. He has consulted on many gold and base metal projects both in Australia and overseas. Mr Gardner was chairman of Ghana Manganese Company from 1995 until 2000. From 1993 until 2006 he was actively involved in Canadian listed company, Guinor Gold Corporation where he was Chief Engineer, Mining Projects. Since 1996 he has developed and managed the 100,000 ounce per annum Lero gold Heap Leach Project and completed the LEFA Corridor project study and supervised the EPCM contractor constructing its 350,000 ounce per annum multiple open pit and CIP Plant project in remote Guinea, West Africa. Currently he is pursuing bauxite, uranium, copper and gold exploration projects in West Africa and Australia.

Mr Gardner is a Non-executive Director Resources NL and a director of a number privately held companies with interests in the resources sector.


Ray Whitten

Non-Exec. Director, Deputy Chairman

Ray Whitten is an admitted solicitor with over 40 years’ experience having previously acted as President of the City of Sydney Law Society. Mr Whitten holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, a Masters of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney, and is an accredited specialist in business law and is a Notary Public.

Mr Whitten is an experienced investor with a wide range of investment interests and has served as a Director of many private and public companies. In 2005 as Chairman of the National Stock Exchange of Australia Limited (NSX) he was responsible for its successful IPO on the ASX in 2005.

His current roles include serving as Chairman of Whittens & McKeough, a boutique Sydney law firm specialising in mergers and acquisitions and corporate law. Mr Whitten was formerly Deputy Chairman of the Safety, Return to Work and Support Board (a board formed under statute responsibile for determining the general policies and direction for the following agencies: Workcover NSW, Motor Accidents Authority NSW and Lifetime Care and support Authority NSW).


Peter McMickan

Executive Director

Peter McMickan graduated with an Honors Degree in Geology from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1977. He has post-graduate qualifications in Mineral Economics from Macquarie University and is a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Mr McMickan’s professional career has spanned 29 years worldwide with a number of major, well respected international exploration and mining companies including Newmont, Pancontinental Mining, BP Minerals, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines and Homestake. He is a highly regarded geologist and manager, with a proven track record of business and technical success throughout his career.

His more recent experience covers corporate, senior management and technical supervision of mining, development and exploration projects throughout Australia, Africa and Europe. He managed the mine geology, exploration and successful resource development of Guinor Gold Corporation’s Lero Gold Project in Guinea, West Africa. During his four years with the company, the company’s exploration spend increased to US$1 million per month, which sustained the existing heap leach operation and resulted in expansion of the resource to over 4 million ounces of gold in the space of two years. This expanded resource base underpinned a major re-development of the Lero Project to a 6Mtpa CIP/CIL operation producing 350,000 ounces of gold per year.

Mr McMickan was also involved in Guinor’s re-domiciliation from Oslo to London, and listing the company on the Toronto Stock Exchange. He has, in the past six years been involved in the re-capitalization and market re-rating of three exploration and mining companies, in all cases more than doubling their market capitalization in less than two years.

Mr McMickan joins Viking from Aditya Birla Minerals Ltd, one of Australia’s largest copper producers, where he was General Manager of Geology and Business Development. During his period of employment he was responsible for worldwide evaluation of advanced copper projects, the ongoing development of the Esperanza South and Maroochydore copper projects and new exploration discoveries in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.


Mike Langoulant

Company Secretary

Mike Langoulant is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years experience in corporate administration and 10 years experience in international accounting firms. Mr Langoulant is acting or has acted as chairman, non-exec director, chief financial officer and company secretary for a number of listed companies. Mr Langoulant is currently Chairman and Company Secretary of ASX listed White Cliff Minerals Limited and is a Director of Property Connect Holdings Limited. Former directorships include ASX listed Luiri Gold Limited and ASX/AIM listed Nyota Minerals Limited.
